Off we go
Saturday November 23rd
Having dinner at the Pullman Hotel at Auckland Airport. The restaurant is on the 9th floor and you can see the whole airport with the backdrop of the Manukau harbour.
Whose idea was this, anyway?
It's funny how excited and anxious you feel all at the same time when the big day finally arrives and you are ready to go. So when we finally meet up at the Pullman I jokingly ask - "So whose idea was this anyway?"
Mausie insists it was my idea because I found the advertisement for the Imagine Holidays 'Tour and Cruise' holiday in the Sunday newspaper one day in May. But I think it was really her idea as she was the one who suggested it in the first place. Either way we are both incredibly lucky and excited at the thought of our big adventure together. We are going to have so much fun!
Sunday November 24th
It's the morning of day one and our alarms are set for 2am so we can be up and ready for the flight leaving Auckland at 6.05 for Melbourne. A super early start is what you get for living in a country at the bottom of the world! Here we are in the hotel lobby before we leave - looking pretty glamorous for that time of the morning!
The flight
It's a long wait once we have checked in to get through security and board the plane. It's incredible how many times you have to show your passport so they know it's really you!!!
So it's great when we finally relax into our seats. I have the window seat and take this photo of another Qantas plane leaving at around the same time for Sydney.

The flight goes really well and we arrive in Melbourne early in the morning to a light drizzle and a warm 19 degrees. We quickly find a taxi and are soon in our hotel. Happily they can give us our rooms early and so we settle in and relax before heading out to explore the city.
